Weekend Club

Clubbing
Nr. 227 · Mitte

I won't soon forget that summery Sunday evening in July 2011. A party elsewhere in the city was disappointing. So, at the last minute, I ventured to the GMF, a famous party in Berlin's gay scene, held at the Weekend Club at the time.

From the outside, it looks like an ordinary office building on Alexanderplatz. But in the evening hours, you can leave your coat in the cloakroom on the ground floor and take the elevator. And when you reach the fifteenth floor, it turns out there is a disco inside. Small, cramped, with a row of LEDs above the dance floor and benches for lounging, lounging, and watching along the sides.

There is also a rooftop terrace, which, with its beautiful wooden floor and sunken bar, offers an incredible view over Berlin. On warm summer evenings, you can enjoy yourself here until deep into the night if you don't feel like dancing.

Incidentally, Weekend does not cater to a gay crowd. And that small disco on the 15th floor turned out not to be the whole story: on the twelfth floor is a much larger room, with decor that has a bit of an eighties feel. In 2014, after a major renovation, the club became even more luxurious. GMF doesn't exist anymore by the way: after three decades the party had its last dance.
