Spreepark
It’s rare to see a former theme park. The Spreepark (on the eastern edges of Berlin) has been closed for the public since November 2001: because of a row with the authorities over the parking lot, it wasn’t economically feasible anymore to have a theme park there.
Since those days, nature had taken over and rust has been gathering in the rides that are still there. It used to be a local hobby to climb over the fence and hope to not get caught by the security. But since around 2022 city authorities took over, repaired the fence and started renovating the entire site.
The renewed park is expected to open again in 2027. Including an updated food court and a completely renewed giant wheel hanging over a small lake. The Eierhäuschen, an event space and beautiful beer garden, has been renovated already and opened up a couple of years again. Excellent location on the waterside.
