Assisi’s Panorama
Most tourist attractions aren’t worth their money, but Assisi’s Panorama is the exception to that rule. Where most tourists prefer to take a photograph with an actor posing as an American solider at nearby Checkpoint Charlie, the artist Assisi genuinely takes you back in time.
The round building hosts a giant painting depicting the situation in the sixties at Alfred Döblin Platz in Kreuzberg. For me personally a fascinating experience, as the (not entirely factual) piece is situated in the area where I used to live. But Assisi first and foremost illustrates the hustling city life on the western side of the wall and the emptiness on the other side.
In the pandemic a second Assisi panorama opened its doors, on what also looks like a temporary location as part of the Pergamon Museum near Museumsinsel.
