What felt like an eternal renovation ‘only’ lasted seven years and cost a whopping 440 million euros (instead of the budgeted 260 million). But since the end of 2018 Berlin finally has its state opera back in the heart of the city.
And what a jewel it is. It feels like being transported back in time, with the plush red seats and the wooden elements. But don’t be fooled: the acoustics and the facilities are state-of-the-art, as are the performances on-stage.
