In the completely refurbished and overexpensive Mitte, Schokoladen is an anachronism, a still beating heart of resistance. Despite a lot of resistance against the venue, it’s still there. The building in the Ackerstrasse was already occupied / squatted in the nineties by activists, who turned it into a cultural venue with gigs and other events.
That formula still didn’t change, even real estate developers or civil workers couldn’t do anything about it. The cosy space makes it almost immediately feel as if the venue is full. The concerts last until 10pm because of noise regulations, the parties start immediately afterwards.
