A tip from my former neighborhood. In a plain and normal street you will find the Mauerwerk, a plain and normal pub. But then without the wanna-be-hip eighties interior that you see far too often in Berlin. No, in Mauerwerk the walls are stripped so you can see the bricks again, and you can experience live music occasionally (which doesn’t interest the regulars one single bit).
Funnily enough the Mauerwerk markets itself as a cocktailbar, probably anticipating the influx of hip new inhabitants of the area, something that has been predicted for twenty years but never happened. Until it does, we will simply carry on drinking our beers and ridiculously cheap cocktails.
